چکیده
Objective. To determine the changes and clinical significance of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in esophageal precancerous and cancerous lesions from the patients at Linzhou, Henan, a wellknown region for its high prevalence of esophageal cancer. Methods. The expressions of COX-2 and VEGF in esophagi with normal epithelium (n = 34), basal cell hyperplasis (BCH, n = 36), mild dysplasia (n = 15), severe dysplasia (n = 18) and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC, n = 32) was examined by immunohistochemistry. Results. Immunoreactivity of COX-2 and VEGF in severe esophageal dysplasia and SCC was significantly higher than in other tissues (P < 0.05). The correlation between COX-2 and VEGF was statistically significant (χ2 = 41119, P < 0.01). Conclusion. COX-2 and VEGF expressions are up-regulated in severe dysplasia and SCC, suggesting that COX-2 and VEGF may play important roles in esophageal carcinogenesis and may be potential molecular targets for high risk subject screening, and early detection. AIM Microsatellites are the repeated DNA sequences scattered widely within the genomes and closely linked with many important genes. This study was designed to characterize the changes of microsatellite DNA loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in esophageal carcinogenesis. METHODS Allelic deletions in 32 cases of matched precancerous, cancerous and normal tissues were examined by syringe microdissect...

OBJECTIVE To summarize the endoscopic screening findings in high-risk population of esophageal and gastric carcinoma and analyze influential factors related to screening. METHODS In seven selected cities and counties with high incidences of esophageal carcinoma, people at age of 40-69 were set as the target population. Those with gastroscopy contradictions were excluded, and all who were volu...

Since most common form of cervical cancer starts with pre-cancerous changes, a flawless detection of these changes becomes an important issue to prevent and treat the cervix cancer. There are 2 ways to stop this disease from developing. One way is to find and treat pre-cancers before they become true cancers, and the other is to prevent the pre-cancers in the first place. The presented approach...
